Meet the Doctors


Dr.C. Douglas Stine
Dr. Stine earned his Bachelor of Science degree from North Dakota State University. He was awarded his Doctorate of Optometry from Pacific University in Oregon. Because research continues to alter the world of eye care, Dr. Stine is committed to continuous study. He currently holds certifications in both Diagnostic and Therapeutic Ocular Disease Management as well as advanced training in contact lenses and laser refractive co-management. Dr. Stine grew up in North Dakota with his three brothers and three sisters. Married and the father of five, Dr. Stine understands the importance of family. As a patient of Stine Eye Center you can expect to be treated as a member of our eye care family.

Dr.Robert Kessen
Dr. Kessen earned his Doctorate of Optometry from the Illinois College of Optometry in Chicago where he graduated with honors. His decision to pursue a career in Optometry can be directly traced to encouragement from Dr. Stine while being fit with contact lenses as a teen. Dr. Kessen has been practicing optometry in the Wausau area for over 15 years and is committed to providing excellent, thorough, and gentle vision and eye care services. He holds a special interest in state-of-the-art contact lenses and advanced contact lens research. In his free time, Dr. Kessen can be found spending time with his wife and daughters, as well as with his extended Wausau Alliance Church family. Some of his special hobbies include deer hunting and spending time outdoors.

Dr.Eric Barnier
Dr. Eric Barnier earned his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Wisconsin and his Doctorate of Optometry from Pacific University in Oregon. From an early age, Dr. Barnier’s life has been immersed in various forms of service to his community and his country. While serving in the United States Army for 8 years, he provided outstanding and compassionate care as a Combat Medic. At Pacific University College of Optometry, Dr. Barnier received the prestigious Award of Excellence in Systemic Disease and graduated with academic honors. He now specializes in comprehensive medical eye care – caring for patients with glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, and dry eye disease. In his free time, Dr. Barnier enjoys hunting, fishing, hiking, running, and gardening with the love of his life, Gabriella.

Dr.Gabriella Stine
Dr. Gabriella Stine earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and Pre-Optometry from UW-La Crosse and her Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from Rasmussen University. She was awarded her Doctorate of Optometry degree from Pacific University in Oregon, where she served for four years as the Class President. Prior to and while attending optometry school, Dr. Stine worked as a medical-surgical and COVID nurse. She is the recipient of the Pacific University College of Optometry Dean's Award, which recognizes academic excellence, leadership, community service, and commitment to the practice of optometry. Dr. Stine has received extensive training in all aspects of medical optometry and specifically enjoys providing care for patients with diabetes, glaucoma, macular degeneration, and dry eye disease. Additionally, she has a love for children and wants her “little patients” to have a positive experience during their visit. As both a nurse and an optometrist, Dr. Stine strives to provide each patient with individualized and holistic eye care. In her free time, Dr. Stine enjoys spending time with her pets and the love of her life, Eric.
